Matthew 8:21-22 KJV

[21] And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. [22] But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

The young child is given a wonderful Christmas gift wrapped in pretty, colorful wrapping paper. The child unwraps the gift, and becomes absorbed in the colors, noise and so on of the Christmas wrap. Consequently, he completely ignores the gift. So the parents take away the wrapping paper to get the child's attention on the gift.

There are wonderful things in this life that are given by God for people to enjoy. But they are to be enjoyed only. They are not to become life’s focus. People often become too attached to these things. They distract from the most important things in life.

Luke 8:14 KJV

[14] And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

When that happens, God may take them away from you.
