Music leaders must study the Bible and learn it, because they must teach it, by means of the songs. The lyrics must be biblical.

Colossians 3:16 KJV

[16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Here are some popular, old hymns with questionable lyrics that are rarely questioned. Incorrect lyrics cause people to have wrong beliefs. Beliefs are what determine people’s lives.

LOVE LIFTED ME

Love instead of Jesus. The last verse does say it is Jesus’ love that lifted. But Jesus is mentioned by name only once. The emphasis is on love, not Jesus.

OLD RUGGED CROSS

“I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it some day for a crown.”

Will we ever do away with Jesus dying for our sins?

TAKE TIME TO BE HOLY

Should we not be holy all the time? Or only when we take time to be holy?
