They say one way to stop a bad habit is to replace it with a good one. The Bible tells about some specific ones.

James 1:19 KJV

[19] Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

Replace talking with listening.

Psalm 119:15-16 KJV

[15] I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.

[16] I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Meditating on God’s Word leads to delighting in His commandments, because meditating on the commandments is one way to see how wonderful each one is, and how they promote people’s well-being. This delighting tends to eliminate the bad habit of forgetting to obey God.

Psalm 119:23 KJV

[23] Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.

Psalm 119:78 KJV

[78] Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.

Meditating on God‘s statutes replaces worry about your circumstances.

Romans 12:20-21 KJV

[20] Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

[21] Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Most people have the habit of being overcome by evil. They react, strike back, return evil for evil. That sinful habit is to be replaced by returning good for evil.
