Matthew 1:21 KJV
[21] And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Jesus saves people from God‘s wrath. But that is not all. He also saves them from their sins. He does not just save them from God‘s wrath, so they may keep on sinning without any danger or fear. He also saves them from their sins. If you are saved from a fire, you are taken away from the fire. Likewise, if you are saved from your sins, you are taken away from them.
The Bible reveals this in many places.
1 John 3:5,7 KJV
[5] And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
[7] Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
Titus 2:14 KJV
[14] Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Ezekiel 36:25-27 KJV
[25] Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
[26] A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
[27] And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Acts 3:26 KJV
[26] Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
A saved person grows in holiness. Some faster than others (Hebrews 5:11-14). There may be periods of no growth (Luke 15:11-32, the prodigal son). Still, over a long-enough period of time, there is always growth, and it can be seen.
When a person makes no progress in holiness and does not even care much about it, their heart set on other things, they most likely are not saved.
